Stay At Charlie Chaplin’s Hideaway
Last time you were in LA, you did the tourist thing. You saw the sights, realized you should have rented a car and ate at some awesome food trucks. But this time, you want to experience LA like a true star. Let’s start at square one: where should you stay?
The home of Charlie Chaplin should do. Quite well, in fact.
The property has been converted into a bed and breakfast that is equally quaint as it is glamorous and filled with Hollywood history. Charlie Chaplin considered it his refuge and built a writing studio on the grounds. Today, 14 cottages stand, each one surrounded by an English garden. There is even a collection of Charlie’s personal belongings that were found in the basement. The individual bungalows are named after the star-studded guests who once passed through and decorated with their black and white photographs. In fact, some of Charlie’s guests included Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Marlene Dietrich and Bette Davis. Situated on a residential street in West Hollywood, snuggled between apartment buildings, it maintains the allure of a hideaway, even though it is in the heart of the city.
Be sure to pack your oversized sunglasses and silk pajamas. You’re going to need them for alfresco lunches on the patio or breakfast on your rooftop terrace.
